大歓迎。 前にこの曲のことは書いたことがあったでしょうか。スタンダードの「アズ・タイム・ゴーズ・バイ」。ハーマン･ハップフェルドという作曲家が1931年に書いた作品で、元々ミュージカル『エヴリバディーズ・ウェルカム』に使われました。同年ジャック・レナード、さらにルディー･ヴァレーでヒット。 その後1942年の映画 『カサブランカ』 で使用され再度ヒットとなっています。なんと言っても、ハンフリー・ボカートとイングリッド･バーグマンの出演する 『カサブランカ』 はこの曲を光輝くものにしました。僕の個人的なフェヴァリットはタック＆パティーのヴァージョンです。 タイトルの「アズ・タイム・ゴーズ・バイ」は、「時がどんなに流れても」という意味です。曲の内容は、「時がどんなに流れても、もっとも基本的なことはなにも変わらない。キスはキス、ため息はため息、女は男を求め、男には女が必要。それは、どんなに時代が流れようとも、決して変わることがない真実・・・」と言った歌です。 何百というヴァージョンがありますが、最新ヴァージョンは、そう、ロッド･スチュワートです。先日書いた 『グレイト・アメリカン・ソング・ブック　ヴォリューム2』 の中でこの曲が歌われていました。しかも、女性とデュエットで。　曲のイントロで映画のような演技をするこの声は誰？　新しいジャズシンガー？　どこかのミュージカルスター？　ディディー･ブリッジウォーターあたりか？　いやいやいや、違いました。ほ〜〜〜、へえ〜〜〜。そうですかあ。驚きました。なんと一緒に歌っているのは,ラッパーのクイーン･ラティーファ。 最近はもっぱら映画での活躍が目立つラティーファですが、こんな曲をこんな風に歌うんですか。いい、いい。ロッドのしわがれ声と、ラティーファの落ち着いた歌声のコンビネーション。こんな組合せが可能なんですね。すばらしいサプライズです。 この曲が書かれて72年の時が流れているわけですが、72年たっても、この曲の魅力は色あせることはありません。世界は、いつでも「アズ・タイム・ゴーズ・バイ」を大歓迎します。どんなに時が流れても。 "As Time Goes By" music and words by Herman Hupfeld [This day and age we're living in Gives cause for apprehension With speed and new invention And things like fourth dimension.
